Can You Possibly Lose 3 Pounds In Just a Few Days

Posted in weight loss on July 20th, 2010 by strongbody1

My girlfried called me on my cell phone the other day, and she seemed in a panic. It isn’t like her to get freaked out too easily, so I was surprised to hear that she was in such a frantic state. Clearly she must be experiencing some tremendous tragedy, and I was almost afraid to ask her just what was going on. I braced myself for bad news, expecting her to tell me the worst, but once she calmed down she told me that the “big crisis” was that she needed to lose 3 pounds in 3 days.

For me, losing a few pounds isn’t anything to get all worried about. So to lose 3 pounds in 3 days didn’t really strike me as something that should be such cause for concern. But to be frank my girlfriend is tremendously competitive, and she and her best friend have been dieting and exercising together, so they’ve been comparing their weight loss progress on a weekly basis. They both work out at the same gym and weigh in together every Friday evening. Well, to date they’d been keeping even pace with one another, but my girlfriend heard from one of the trainers at the gym that her friend had managed to drop 5 pounds while my wife had only managed to lose two, and only 3 days remained until the next weigh in. Naturally that means my dear girlfriend simply had to lose 3 pounds in 3 days in order to keep in step.

I told my girlfriend that she shouldn’t try and push it. In my mind, it isn’t safe if you don’t have a plan. I was worried that she was simply so fixated on “I have to lose 3 pounds in 3 days” that she would throw all caution to the wind and proceed in an unsafe or unhealthy manner. I was happy to learn that she consulted with her trainer at the gym on safely increasing her exercise regimen in order to burn a few extra calories at each workout. She added a little more weight training and more cardiovascular and did so only under the strict guidance of her fitness professional. She also modified her diet slightly in order to help achieve her plan to lose 3 pounds rapidly, but again she did so only after speaking with the physician’s assistant at her doctor’s office.

I have to say, she met her goal. In the end, my girlfriend did what she needed to do to lose 3 pounds in 3 days, but thankfully she did it in a way that ensured she did no damage to herself in the process. Oh, and her friend? She ended up losing a total of seven pounds for the week and my girfriends weight loss was five. So while she didn’t match her friend pound-for-pound, she did well enough to feel happy about her own progress. I guess, in the end, that’s all that really matters.

Keep to Your Diet Low Carbohydrate Plans Require Consistency

Posted in New on September 27th, 2010 by strongbody1

What do you recommend as far as diet? Low carbohydrate plans such as Adkins have been popular for some time. These diet low carbohydrate will help you lose weight. The key is sticking to them for a period of time.

Variety is the key to the diet. Low carbohydrate foods exclude such staples as white bread, rice, and potatoes. Many people find that they can stick to a meat and vegetables only diet for a couple of weeks but begin to lose interest in the food thereafter. At that point, they begin to cheat on the plan. As a result, they gain all of their weight back – and more.

The key to any plan is to stick to the diet. Low carbohydrate plans are no different. In fact, low carb diets require an even greater ability to stay on plan because they rely on your body going into ketosis. Ketosis is where the levels of ketone bodies are elevated in the blood. Ketone bodies are used by the blood cells as an alternative to glucose. So, Adkins and other such diets, starve the body of glucose requiring it to switch to ketones. This is measured by seeing if your body is in ketosis.

Therefore, if you switch from a diet high in carbohydrates (which are found in white, starchy foods) to one which is heavy in fats and proteins, you force your body into ketosis. In this state, your body will begin burning fat at a fast rate.

However, if you introduce carbohydrates back into the diet, your body falls out of ketosis. This means that your body begins to burn glucose instead of ketones. Even one day of falling off the wagon will destroy your diet. Low carbohydrate plans depend on your being consistent with the food you eat.

Low carbohydrate diets do not restrict the protein and fat that you eat. Therefore, eggs and bacon are fine for breakfast – but skip the toast and hash browns. Salads with meats, cheeses, and hard boiled eggs are a lunchtime staple. Dinner features meat, vegetables, and salads. Snacks such as nuts, beef jerky, and cheese sticks are acceptable. In later stages of the diets, fruits may be introduced in limited quantities.

Refined sugars are always off limits. You shouldn’t eat any potatoes, white bread, rice, or other white carbohydrates while on Adkins or other low carb diet. Fortunately, a number of food manufacturers have come out with low carb product replacements so that dieters following these programs can occasionally have pancakes, muffins, and the like without breaking their diets.

It is recommended that you stay away from low fat processed foods when on this diet. Low carbohydrate meals require that you keep all forms of carbs out – and many of the low fat processed foods such as salad dressing replace the fat with sugars. Besides, on this diet, fat is not a dirty word.

Adkins, Power Protein and the like are pretty good if you have to diet. Low carbohydrate plans let you eat until you feel full and provide a full range of nutrients.

Men aren’t the only ones who can build a great body. Body building for a woman is a great way to lose weight, get fit, and look great. An effective body building program won’t make a woman look muscular necessarily. This is one reason why many women hesitate to start lifting weights and exercise intently. What a good body building program for a woman will do is sculpt a beautiful body that you can be proud of.

Body building in general started gaining popularity in the 1970’s after the release of the movie “Pumping Iron” starring Arnold Schwarzeneggar. It was about this time that the women’s liberation movement began rising in popularity as well. As women started standing up for their rights, they also began to exercise their options to do what men were doing – and that included body building.

Now, there are two categories of body building women: those who work for health and those who work for competition. Of course, any body building program for a woman will have great health benefits, but those who want to compete will find themselves working in a different way.

Many women hesitate to start a body building program because they don’t want to look like male body builders with huge muscles and oversized shoulders and legs. But women are different from men in that they cannot naturally produce the huge amount of testosterone that men have which contributes to large muscles in men.

Body building for a woman is more about sculpting muscles to look toned and strong – not to become large and massive. It can happen for those women who choose to use illegal substances such as steroids. But body building for a woman who chooses the healthy route will simply make a chiseled body that looks and feels great.

Many people think the female body is naturally a work of art, but it’s easy to get off track with the stresses of every day life – especially for women. They are expected to hold to a pre-conceived ideal of what a woman is supposed to look like. But every woman is different just as every woman’s body is different.

Body building for a woman can make her more confident, feel better about herself, and look great in the process. Many people think that the strong, chiseled muscles that female body builders have IS the ideal of what a woman is supposed to look like. Getting healthy and staying healthy is important for everyone. Body building for a woman can help get her there and stay there.

Body Building Diet

Posted in body building Diet on August 9th, 2010 by strongbody1

In body building, your diet is one of the most effective weapons you can have if you want to achieve maximum potential. Diet is so important to the body builder as it not only supplies the body with the energy needed to perform your exercises as well as giving you the nutrients you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

A good body building diet will include a lot of protein. It is critical for building muscle, losing fat, and contributing to the overall health of our tissues and organs. You should be consuming 1 gram of protein for each pound of your body weight. Body builders should increase that amount to a gram and a half per day. Good sources of protein include meat, fish, and milk.

Carbohydrates should also be a big part of the body building diet. Carbs are a major source of the fuel our body uses for activity. You should include complex carbohydrates in your diet through starches and fiber. That means eating pasta, whole grain rice, and whole grain breads as well as potatoes.

Believe it or not, fats are also an important part of a body building diet. Our bodies need fats to function correctly and efficiently. They are an energy source for the body and regulate most of our bodily processes.

The key for including fat in your diet is to consume the good fats as opposed to the bad one. Good fats are unsaturated ones found in olive oil or flaxseed oil. Unsaturated fats are ones that are liquid at room temperature. Saturated fats can clog your arteries and lead to health problems, so they should be avoided as much as possible. Animal lard and butter are saturated fats and are solid at room temperature.

You should also have adequate fiber in your body building diet. Fiber helps your body flush out impurities on a regular basis and helps contribute to weight loss. Some good sources of fiber are whole grain as well as nuts and seeds.

Finally, you will want to include a lot of vegetables in your diet as well as a moderate amount fruit. Fruit can cause you to retain water and contribute to a larger amount of sugar that you would otherwise need. However, vegetables contain essential vitamins and nutrients that you body needs to operate efficiently.

A good body building diet is one that is balanced and nutritious. You should consume the majority of your protein and carbohydrates in the morning and eat five or six small meals daily instead of three large ones. A good diet is important to effective body building, so know what your body needs and then go for it.

Arnold Schwarzeneggar Body Building

Posted in bodybuilding on August 3rd, 2010 by strongbody1

There’s probably no one more well-known in the body building world than the governor of California. Arnold Schwarzeneggar made body building a household phenomenon with the release of his 1973 movie “Pumping Iron”. He has been granted the honor of single handedly making body building an everyday term.

When Arnold first started out in his body building career, he was just a young man. He started out as a “98 pound weakling” and grew into Mr. Universe. His transformation was an incredible display of body building might along with some amazing dedication.

There is probably no better body building story than that of Arnold Swarzeneggar. He worked a variety of jobs including that of street worker in Santa Monica, California. The entire time, he was also devoting all his off hours to honing and sculpting a beautiful body. In 1970, he was awarded the ultimate body building title of “Mr. Universe” and became a household name.

He kept on with his body building until he decided that a film career was the way to go. He found success as an actor in such films as “The Terminator”, “End of Days”, and “True Lies”. While he never won any type of award for his acting work, he still garnered the respect of many Hollywood elite for his strong performances in these films.

Arnold’s first approach to bodybuilding was fairly atypical. When he was 13, he played soccer, but felt very dissatisfied with a team sport. “I didn’t like the fact that I couldn’t be personally gratified” he declared. He tried other endeavors: track and field, boxing, javelin throw and weightlifting. But only when his coach suggested he tried working with weights (to strengthen his legs), Arnold found his true vocation.

When he first walked into a gym he was literally awed. “I found myself in a gym, in awe of muscles I had never seen before and of which I didn’t even know the correct name. The bodybuilders were powerful, Herculean. Before my very eyes, my true future opened up: I had found the answer I had been looking for.” Thus began, at 16, the career of the greatest bodybuilder of all times, the man who would be crowned Mr. Olympia for a record seven times.

As his physique started developing, so did his self-confidence. Very soon he discovered the thing somebody described as the “power of size”. And, as his muscles grew, so did the respect he was receiving from his peers. The growing of his muscular mass, started influencing his relationships with other young men and, of course, with women too. He realized that some women were decidedly turned on by his physique, whereas others seemed to be disgusted by it. “I wanted to become even bigger, so that I’d be able to really impress the girls who dug muscles and… irritate even more the ones who disliked them.”

Arnold Schwarzeneggar is quite possibly the epitome of the body building ideal. When you are serious about your body building goals, you could do worse than following the advice of the great governor of California!
